Independent testing programme assessing the lifetime of consumer products
Generation of waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) has soared in the past decades. WEEE is considered to be one of the fastest growing waste streams in the EU, growing at 3-5% per year and reaching 12 Mt by 2020. This development is not only putting a strain on the environment, but also on consumers’ budgets.
PROMPT has the ambition to help extending the useful lifetime of products and to contribute to the transition to a circular economy. It aims at boosting durable design, providing access to repair services, upgrades and disassembly options. Furthermore, it intends to help reducing resource depletion, prevent waste generation and mitigate associated societal and environmental impacts.
